Call for more business support in American Samoa for fibre optic cable

The American Samoa Chamber of Commerce is calling on the local business community to support the fibre optic cable project and efforts to set up a call centre industry.

The Chamber President, David Robinson, says Info Tech, the company that has been working to start up a call centre is progressing well.

But Mr Robinson says the reaction from the business community to the call centre venture has been lukewarm.

"The fibre optic cable is the first very important step to take and then the call centre and the other businesses will follow on from there, so it's a very important development for our economy and it should give us a much needed boost."

David Robinson says these ventures are needed as local businesses are feeling the pressure following the additional 50 cents wage hike.
