Call to look into population growth in American Samoa

1:32 pm on 4 June 2008

An American Samoa representative, Archie Taotasi Soliai, says more prominence should be given to problems caused by the territory's rising population.

An advisory group to the governor has identified population growth as the number one threat to the territory's natural resources.

Representative Soliai, who attended a meeting to set policy on population increase, says there's cause for concern.

"To see all the numbers they are sharing and the immigration issues, and the problem really is given a new light with the information and the way it was presented."
