All port users in American Samoa, will soon have to carry the same biometric transportation security cards as their colleagues in the mainland.

An official from Lockheed Martin, contracted by the US Department of Homeland Security to implemented the security card system, is in the territory this week to explain the new requirement.

The deputy Director of Port Administration Chris King said all mariners, ship captains and dock workers who have access to the waterfront are required to carry the biometric security cards.

The cards are able to store details of an individual's fingerprint.
