Samoa's Electric Power Corporation has increased the cost of electricity by 11 sene, or 4 US cents, a unit from June 1.

It says since the tariff surcharge adjustment on 1 February 2008, fuel prices have increased by 14%.

Up until May the power corporation has absorbed the continuing increase in the cost of fuel by overstretching its financial resources.

It said these rising costs due to factors beyond its control have made it absolutely necessary for the corporation to adjust tariff rates to ensure a continuous supply of electricity to customers.
