Tonga's first interim anti corruption commissioner is expected to be announced today following the opening this week of an office for the Anti Corruption Commission in Nuku'alofa.

Matangi Tonga online says a joint working group was set up in April to accelerate the establishment of the independent office.

The primary responsibility of the Joint Working Committee was to direct pre-establishment activities and mobilise public interest in the new commission.

Tonga's Law Revision Commissioner, Neil Adsett, says the setting up of the office is the first move to educate the public about the work of the commission.

He says its primary goal is to investigate suspected wrong doings and improve the level of governance in Tonga.
