7:10 pm on 13 June 2008

Tonga and Australia are to hold National Whale Days tomorrow as part of a series of celebrations acknowledging the importance of the mammals.

National Whale Day in Tonga will also see the official release of its Whale Watching Tourism report in Neiafu in Vava'u.

The event will incorporate children's activities, whale education displays, guest speakers and live performances.

The independent report details the significant growth of the whale and dolphin watching industry and its contribution to Tonga's economy.

Australia's National Whale Day will be launched at Sydney's Maritime Museum, in what will be one of about 26 events around the country being run by the International Fund for Animal Welfare and the Humpback Icon Project.
