Knives found on people trying to enter Noumea's Court House

In New Caledonia, the installation of a new metal detector at the entrance of the Noumea Court House has led to over a hundred sharp and blunt objects being confiscated.

The daily newspaper, Les Nouvelles Calédoniennes, says knives of all sizes, including one 35 centimetres-long, scissors and razors were detected.

One security guard at the court house says surprisingly, the potentially dangerous objects were mostly confiscated on women and young girls.

The guard says they carry the items in their handbags, probably for self-defence.
