Solomons banks go offline due to Telecom troubles

7:05 pm on 17 June 2008

All the banks around Solomon Islands went offline on Tuesday because of some delays within the troubled telecommunications company, Our Telekom.

The telecommunication company has been in recent strife with its staff union giving strike notice two weeks ago over their demand that the CEO, Martyn Robinson, be removed.

Staff were denied access to their officers over the weekend and some were still sitting around waiting to get into their office at 11am Monday.

That dispute is now before the the Trade Disputes Panel.
