Samoa signs up to American Samoa undersea fibre optic cable

The government of Samoa has signed on to lease capacity on the American Samoa undersea fibre optic cable.

Samoa's s Minister of Communications recently signed an agreement with the American Samoa Hawaii Cable, the company spearheading the project.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Communications, Tua'imalo Ah Samu, told the Newsline newspaper the cable presented a good opportunity for Samoa because of the closeness of American Samoa.

The initial set up costs for Samoa is 165,000 US dollars and thereafter there'll be a monthly lease payment of 120,000 US dollars.

The underwater sea cable should be in Pago Pago in November.
