The establishment of an "adult business" zone is being considered in the tourist district of the Northern Marianas' main island of Saipan.
The Saipan Tribune reports that the CNMI Zoning Board has approved changes that would establish a specialist sex industry zone on Saipan's Middle Road.
Strip clubs, adult book and novelty stores and massage parlors would have one year to relocate to the special zone.
The newspaper says one of the biggest complaints about Saipan's tourism industry, particularly in the Garapan area, is the proliferation of adult businesses.
The Middle Road area designated for the new adult business zone is at present primarily used by offices and light industry.
