8:19 pm on 1 July 2008

Fiji's interim Government is expecting a political forum to convene in mid august.

Fiji's Interim Prime Minister has released a statement saying the Commonwealth Secretary General's Representative, Sir Paul Reeves, will be consulting with all key stakeholders including the interim government and political parties to establish terms of reference for the forum.

He says the forum is being facilitated by the Commonwealth and the UN.

The Interim Government's spokesperson, Major Neumi Leweni can't elaborate on what the UN will do to facilitate the meeting.

"Like I said the UN and the Commonwealth have responded positively and will facilitate it...as of now I couldn't really say anything further than that. We will need to await the arrival of Sir Paul Reeves, and how they will formulate the terms of reference."

Major Neumi Leweni says the terms of reference will be discussed by Sir paul Reeves, the interim Prime Minister, and any willing political party.

Sir Paul is expected to hold talks in Fiji for the rest of the week.
