Public sector officials from around the Pacific attending a freedom of information workshop in Honiara, have agreed Governments should be proactive in disseminating information.

The workshop participants, in a formal statement, also acknowledged how freely available information empowers people, and say governments must be encouraged to pass laws.

They say governments should also recognise the importance of the media and ensure that public broadcasting is properly financed.

They also say development partners must help with legislation, provide resources to help the implementation and ensure information and communication technology is increasing available.
