Fiji's interim Government says there's no doubt it will meet its sugar requirement to the European Union.

The Fiji Times reported this weak that the FSC might not be able to meet the first quota under a billion-dollar export deal with the European Union.

Fiji's interim Sugar Minister, Mahendra Chaudhry, says the sugar will be shipped.

"We're looking at the whole year's commitment to the EU market and this will be met. Of course we have had teething problems in the first couple of weeks, which is usual with every season and once the mills settle down, after 2 or 3 weeks of crush, things go very smoothly."

The FSC says if harvesting and crushing continues at the current pace, the first shipment could be delayed by a week.
