New Zealand publicises Pacific immigration ballot outcome

6:45 pm on 3 July 2008

The New Zealand government has announced that the draw has been made for Pacific Islanders wanting to enter the country under the Pacific Access Category.

The names of those who have been successful in the ballot are being displayed at the New Zealand High Commissions in Kiribati and Fiji, its Immigration offices in Nuku'alofa and Suva, and at the Tuvalu Department of Labour

They will also be advertised in major papers and on radio in Auckland, Tonga, Kiribati and Tuvalu, and on the department's website.

New Zealand Immigration is encouraging those people who were not successful in the latest ballot to register again next year.

The Director of the Pacific Division of the Department of Labour, Mai Malaulau, says the successfully balloted must now meet specific requirements to be able to enter New Zealand

She says, in particular, they need to organise their medical examinations and character references, get a full time job offer from a New Zealand employer and raise enough money to get these done in time.
