Fiji bottled water industry given until next week for taxation submissions deadline

The Fiji interim authorities have given the bottled water industry until next week to come up with detailed submissions on taxation issues.

This comes amid an outcry over the interim government's decision to impose a new excise duty and export duty of 20 cents per litre effective from July the 1st.

The Interim Finance Minister Mahendra Chaudhry has told the Fiji Times that the excise duty and export duty were examples of ways of the industry giving back what he calls a fair share.

The chief executive officer of the Fiji Islands Revenue and Customs Authority, Jitoko Tikolevu, says this was decided upon after taking into account the urgency to resolve the matter.

Meanwhile, production continues at the mineral water factories.
