The Director-General of Vanuatu's Finance Ministry says he's uncomfortable about the Public Service Commission's plans to transfer him to the Prime Mininster's Office.
Simeon Athy has written to the Commission outlining reasons why he doesn't want to replace Jean Sese as Director General of the Prime Minister's Office.
Mr Sese was recently hospitalised with a blood-pressure related illness and Mr Athy feels it would be improper to replace the long-time public servant while he is still recovering.
With his qualification and working background in finance, Mr Athy says he is best suited in the Finance Ministry where he has been for five years, following twelve years with the Reserve Bank.
However he says he doesn't have the power to decline the transfer offer.
"I was more like kind of advising the office of the Public Service Commission, consider these issues before you transfer me. That's really the thing: I'm an economist, I'm more like a square peg in a square hole, I guess, in Finance."
