French Polynesia's Tahoeraa holds Congress

4:18 pm on 11 July 2008

French Polynesia's opposition Tahoeraa Huiraatiraa Party is today holding its congress as the territory gears up for the September election for the French senate.

The party leader, Gaston Flosse, is the territory's only member of the senate and he is expected to seek nomination for a further term.

This year, the territory will choose two senators.

Lobbying is underway as politicians prepare possible candidacies.

The opposition's Union For Democracy is yet to decide on a path of action, with its leader Oscar Temaru having given no indication if he will run.
