Samoa has appointed its first ever woman Vice President of the Land and Titles Court

Fa'amausili Tuilimu Solo Brown's appointment takes effect on Friday.

She says she didn't believe it was her time, because there are judges who were appointed before her, and who are are highly qualified.

The Samoa Observer reports that Fa'amausili says sometimes God can use people to pave the way and she is thankful that she is that person.

In being appointed a judge in 2004, Fa'amausili was following in the footsteps of Leaupepe Faimaala, the first woman to be appointed a judge of the Land and Titles Court.

Fa'amausili lived in New Zealand for 30 years, and returned to Samoa in 2002 to set up the charity organisation O Le Lafitaga Social Service Provider.

She says she is passionate about justice.
