CNMI administration to ask federal government for money to ease power crisis

10:11 am on 1 August 2008

The CNMI House of Representatives has adopted a resolution asking the federal government to help finance efforts to solve the Commonwealth's power crisis.

The document also asks the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to oversee generator overhaul efforts.

The resolution, however, does not indicate how much federal money the lawmakers hope to get for the overhaul.

House Speaker Arnold I. Palacios and Senate President Pete P. Reyes, along with several other lawmakers, will present the resolution when they travel to Washington, next week to meet with Interior Department and other federal officials.
