Fiji Rugby Union looks at cost-cutting measures

7:58 pm on 6 August 2008

The Fiji Rugby Union is considering drastic cost cutting measures in a bid to sure up its shakey financial position.

The FRU has been forced to look at cutting back on a number of

activities and redundancy package plans for its employees are being

floated around.

FRU Chief Executive Ratu Timoci Tavanavanua says cost cutting measures are the only way to go.

The Fijian Rugby Union revealed in its last Annual General Meeting that it recorded a US $460,000 loss because of the heavy bill of

preparations for last year's World Cup in France.

The FRU is still looking for a major sponsor for the 15-a-side national team while they hope to attract money from the corporate sector to see normal budgetary allocations for internal competitions like the Island Zone and B-Division competitions.
