At least four residents in the coastal village of Wakia in the Mimika regency of Indonesia's Papua province have died of diarrhoea in the past month.

The Jakarta Post quotes a senior official from the regency's health agency, Saiful Takim, as saying the administration has formed a team to investigate the problem.

He says the team consisting of two doctors and several paramedics will soon leave for Wakia to provide treatment for the people there.

14 residents in Sumapro and Wapo villages in Jita district have also been reported to have died of diarrhoea between May and June this year.
