Solomons government defeats no-confidence motion

The Solomon Islands parliament has rejected a no confidence motion against the government of Prime Minister Dr Derek Sikua.

The 50 member house defeated the motion by 39 votes to eight.

One member declined to vote and two other seats are vacant.

One of those seats was held by an MP who died in office, and the holder of the other vacant seat is in jail after being found guilty of defrauding the government
