Fiji's Media Council chairman, Daryle Tarte, has described the detainment of a local reporter as another blow to media freedom
Fiji Times journalist, Serafina Silaitoga, was arrested by the Labasa police and questioned about an article regarding the interim Finance Minister.
Eight police officers arrived Ms Silaitoga's residence early in the morning to take her into custody.
She was later released.
Mr Tarte says it is very disturbing that after the interim Prime Minister has given the nation an undertaking that he upholds media freedom that Fiji journalists continue to be taken in for questioning.
He said the latest incident is another attack on the freedom of journalists to go about their work without the threat of police intimidation.
