More than 100 Army reservists from American Samoa are currently training in California for deployment to the Middle East.

The local reservists, who are part of the 100th Battalion, 442nd Infantry, based at Fort Shafter in Hawaii, were mobilized to Honolulu early last month to prepare for deployment soon in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Soldiers in the battalion include those from American Samoa, Hawaii and the mainland and many of them were deployed two years ago.
