Fiji water export levy talks due next week

1:19 pm on 14 August 2008

Fiji-based water bottling companies will meet the Fiji Islands Revenue and Customs Authority next week to discuss a levy for the extraction of water.

About three weeks ago, the interim cabinet agreed to drop a newly established 20 cents per litre tax on bottled water, but to discuss the introduction of a levy.

A water bottler spokesperson, Jay Dayal, told Fijilive that bottlers would meet with the tax authority on August the 21st to discuss the size of the levy.

In Cabinet the interim Finance Minister Mahendra Chaudhry said talks would now focus on bottling companies paying compensation to the interim government.
