Samoa police probe suicide of inmate on parole visit

3:37 pm on 15 August 2008

The police in Samoa are investigating the death of an 18-year-old prisoner who committed suicide while visiting his family during his parole last Saturday.

There is no information from the police about the incident but a relative of the dead inmate says the police should not have included the prisoner in the week-end parole because he had a history of psychiatric problems.

The relative says the prisoner was jailed early this year for robbing a foreigner.
