The Solomon Islands Police Commissioner, Peter Marshall, says a just completed upgrade of the Solomon Islands Maritime Unit control rooms means Solomon Islands is now able to patrol and monitor its waters more efficiently.
The police maritime unit has long been behind in its technology to cope with an increase in illegal traffic through its waters.
The upgrade was carried out with help from the Australian Defence Force, RAMSI, the Forum Fisheries Agency and a local IT company.
