The Solomon Islands government says it will not be handing out cash as part of its rehabilitation package for former militants.

Speaking in Parliament, Deputy Prime Minister Fred Fono says ex militants will not be given money as the government tries to rehabilitate former fighters.

He says government's package will be in the form of projects, although the final details have yet to be finalized.

Mr Fono says the rehabilitation package has been long in coming which was agreed to under the Townsville Peace Agreement signed between the warring factions and the Kemakeza government at the time.

"Cabinet already approved the taskforce and the taskforce is there to look at putting together the package with the help of technical assistance from the UNDP."
