CNMI Governor, Benigno R. Fitial has asked the Public School System Board of Education to delay the start of classes for at least two weeks due to the island's power crisis.

The Governor says the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation' s generators on Saipan will not be fully operational until mid-September,and will not be in a position to provide reliable services for the traditional opening of public schools.

The schools are required to send their students home if a power outage lasts more than two hours.

A number of relacement generators are currently being shipped to Saipan and are expected to be operational by mid-September.

The new school year is scheduled to begin on September 8th.
