Australia warns about false PNG work offers

Papua New Guineans are being warned to be cautious as a non-affiliated organisation claims it has recruited 800 workers for Australia's pilot Pacific workers' scheme.

The Melanesian Chamber of Commerce, which is based in Lae, is offering placements in the seasonal labour scheme for a non-refundable 20 dollar fee.

Its president, Gabriel Miriye, went on PNG's National Broadcasting Corporation last Friday to highlight his organisation's ability to place workers in the scheme.

But Australia's PNG High Commissioner Chris Moraitis says the Australian government has no association with the chamber.
