Fiji interim PM launches draft constitution

9:42 am on 26 August 2008

Fiji's interim Prime Minister, Frank Bainimarama says amendments to the 1997 Constitution should be made if there is a growing consensus for it.

The Fiji times reported the comment made at the launch of the draft People's Charter at the Suva Civic Centre last night.

The Commodore says people's comments about him breaching the Constitution must mean they know him better than he knows himself.

But he says there are some aspects of the Constitution that might need to be re-examined, modified, changed or amended.

The launch last night coincided with the launch of the People's Forum and the State of the Nation and Economy Report.
