Samoa's Attorney General Office is considering a preliminary report about the alleged illegal import of firearms from American Samoa last April.

The guns were brought to Apia on board the police patrol boat, MV Nafanua, but have now been returned to American Samoa.

In a statement, the office says investigators had travelled to American Samoa last month to interview relevant people, and that their findings are now with the Attorney General, Aumua Ming Leung Wai.

In American Samoa, a former senior police officer, Papalii Marion Fitisemanu, is facing criminal charges in relation to the removal of the

firearms.
