6:58 am on 10 September 2008

More than one-hundred off-island absentee ballot requests have been received by American Samoa's Election Office for the November 4th general election.

Off-island absentee voters are qualified electors on active military service, employment with the federal government, employment with the territorial government

and students attending colleges and universities.

Deputy election officer Filiva'a Mageo says the Election Office received and verified a total of 110 off-island absentee ballots

The Election Office will end the acceptance and mailing out of off-island absentee

ballots two weeks before the election.

Meanwhile, the first round of voting for the election opened yesterday for local absentee voters.

These are qualified electors who reside in American Samoa but who will be temporarily absent from the Territory on Election Day.
