A one-year-old child in Fiji's West is the latest victim of the Dengue epidemic in the country.

The Health Ministry has confirmed the case but supplied no other details.

But the ministry's General Manager Community, Dr. Sala Saketa said they had received further reports of a suspected case in the eastern division; from Vunisea in Kadavu.

Dr Saketa told Fijilive the reported cases come from both urban and rural areas and were widely dispersed.

Dr Saketa stressed that the health ministry had noted that most of the dengue cases arose in areas where waste disposal and drainage was a serious problem.

Reports from the ministry indicate that so far 73 people have been affected with dengue with no fatal cases reported yet.
