The Bank of Guam is expanding its "Choose Green" campaign on Guam

The Saipan Tribune reports that in an effort to reduce waste on the islands, the corporate recycling program focuses on educating its staff and communities on the importance of making smart choices and choosing to recycle.

The Bank of Guam will continue, through a customer incentive program, to distribute thousands of its familiar, and now larger cotton tote bags along with a list of participating merchants.

The program will also be publicized through the media throughout Guam and the CNMI.

Participating merchants provide an incentive of 5 cents per cotton bag used-which is in lieu of using plastic bags.

For example, if a customer uses two cotton bags rather than two plastic bags, 10 cents will be deducted from the total bill.

This also saves on the merchant's cost of each plastic bag, but more importantly prevents that plastic bag from taking more space in the islands' limited rubbish sites.
