Guam pleas for US to give visa waiver for Chinese tourists to the island

Guam has made a plea to the federal government for a visa waiver for Chinese tourists.

A delegation led by the Governor, Felix Camacho, put their case to Homeland Security officials in Washington DC that the island can responsibly run a tourist visa-waiver program for mainland Chinese visitors.

The Saipan Tribune reports the federal government is currently formulating visa-waiver regulations that will apply to both Guam and the Northern Marianas.

Such visa-waivers would mean tourists from certain countries could avoid the stringent application and interview process at U.S. embassies in the tourists' home countries.
