Papua New Guinea's former Prime Minister, Sir Rabbie Namaliu, has announced a much-needed bore water project for villages still recovering from destructive floods in oro Province last year.

Clean drinking water will be restored to many of the Oro Province villages still suffering from Cyclone Guba that lashed the country's north-west coast in November 2007.

Sir Rabbie says the project will contribute to an improvement in quality of life.

Around a quarter of a million US dollars was raised by PNG businesses and citizens with most of it going into the construction of 41 water bores.

The flooding had affected 150,000 people and killed 170.
