The Police in Solomon Islands are confident their key suspect wanted for the attempted murder of a New Zealand Police officer will give himself up to authorities.

The Police say Alphonseus Toghovotu has been on the run for the past 6 years as he is also wanted for 3 unrelated murders.

Earlier this month, Constable Chris Renata was attacked by a group of men, receiving leg wounds from a machete.

Three men have been charged with attempted murder after giving themselves up.

The Solomons Acting Commissioner of Police, Peter Marshall, says the arrests are the result of community consultation with chiefs which it's hoped will also produce Alphonseus Toghovotu
