Samoa opposition MP demands explanation over unexplained expenses

A Samoa opposition Member of Parliament, Levaopolo Talatonu, is outraged that the government has not explained what just over 943 million US dollars, which appears as an expense in the Samoa National Provident Fund report for 2006/2007, was used for.

When he asked in Parliament for an explanation Finance Minister Niko Lee Hang said he would provide one for Levaopolo outside of Parliament.

Levaopolo says the House and the whole country, in particular, contributors to SNPF, wanted an answer.

Levaopolo said there are notes on all expenditures listed in the SNPF report.

But this expense item of $2,634,620 dies not have any notes or explanation.

He says the sum is merely listed as "Other expenses" in the report.

He said the SNPF report shows that too much money has been spent but no-one know how the funds were used.
