The Cook Islands athletics team head to India next week for the Youth Commonwealth Games in Pune confident that security arrangements are in place.

India has been rocked by recent bombings in the capital Delhi a few thousand kilometres away from where the Games will take place.

However, team manager George Hoskings says they've been assured by the organising committee that security will be tight.

"They're organising this with the main Commonwealth Games in 2010 so I'm aware there is a lot of risk there in that country but since they have assured the security to be very tight I don't mind."

The team leaves next week and joins 71 other nations and over three thousand athletes for the event which starts on October 12th.
