Australian Air Force team travelling to site of WW2 wreck in West New Britain

An American missionary familiar with Papua New Guinea's jungle will lead a Royal Australian Air Force recovery team to what remains of a World War II bomber wreck.

A nine-man RAAF team is travelling to an isolated mountain ridge inland from Gasmata in West New Britain, where they will meet missionary Mark Reichmann who found the Australian plane last June.

The Hudson bomber is thought to have been shot down during a mission to attack Japanese shipping at Gasmata Harbour on February 11, 1942.
