Samoa's Attorney General has revealed the reasons behind the withdrawal of a case against the Digicel mobile phone company which was charged with conducting a lottery without a license under the Gaming Act.

Aumua Ming Leung Wai says the charges were contested by the company but when the technical requirements of the Gaming Act were brought to its attention, the company agreed to apply all net proceeds from the competition to charity.

According to Aumua the hearing would take up the court's time and resources and would only focus on technical arguments as to whether the TXT competition was a lottery or not within the meaning of the law.

Digicel has undertaken to ensure full compliance with the Gaming laws in the future.
