Fiji's Ready Action Force formerly known as the Police Mobile Division is to be the new team that specialises in handling crises.
Police spokeswoman Ema Mua said the officers are being trained to improve their skills.
She told Fijilive the group will have new uniforms from January next year to give them a separate image.
Details about the size of the force are not available.
Samples of the new uniforms were approved by the Police Commissioner Commodore, Esala Teleni, last week.
