The University of the South Pacific has reaffirmed its commitment to establishing its fourth campus in the Solomon Islands despite facing financial problems.

The Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation reports that USP Vice Chancellor Professor Rajesh Chandra has reaffirmed USPs commitment.

This was revealed by Professor Chandra in a letter to the Solomon Islands Minister for Education and Human Resources Development, Mathew Wale.

Professor Chandra said he has been encouraged by Minister Wales recent statement that the current Solomon Islands Government has prioritised the establishment of USP's fourth campus in Solomon Islands during its tenure in office.

He added USP stands ready to throw in the needed support and was willing to work in collaboration with the Solomon Islands Government especially the Ministry of Education to see this important project come to fruition.

The Vice Chancellor admits that the establishment of a campus in Solomon Islands was a long term plan of both USP and Solomon Islands Government but little has materialised to date because of lack of funding for the project.
