2:41 pm on 7 October 2008

The head of the Fiji Labour Party, Mahendra Chaudhry, says he will file lawsuits against media organisations after filing one today against the National Federation Party and the Fiji Times.

Fijilive reports that Mr Chaudhry claims to have been defamed by the NFP president Raman Pratap Singh whose commments were carried by the newspaper.

His lawyer says they are now waiting for the respondents and that the damages would be decided by the court.

In March, allegations of impropriety were levelled at Mr Chaudhry by the Fiji Times which prompted Mr Chaudhry to sue the paper for five billion US dollars.

An investigation into his tax affairs instigated by the interim regime cleared him of any wrongdoing.
