Fiji's ousted Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase says the country does not need a constitution or any law if the President has so much prerogative authority he can influence the judicial system.
The Fiji Live website quotes Mr Qarase as saying yesterday's High Court ruling was biased and influenced by the interim government.
He says this decision gives the President very wide prerogative powers and he says that calls into question the point of having a Constitution or any law at all.
Mr Qarase says the President can just rule by decree.
He says he thinks the Court went overboard in explaining the powers of the President in terms of prerogative powers.
Mr Qarase says these Presidential powers will need to be looked at seriously in the future.
He says the decision would encourage more coups, because all the perpetrators would need to do was have the President validate their illegal actions.
