The Australian government says the global financial crisis will not alter Australian aid to the Pacific.
The assurance was given by Australia's parliamentary secretary for international development assistance Bob McMullan in an interview with the Solomon Star.
Mr McMullan says Australian aid will never change despite the financial crisis.
He says Australia is keen to continue working closely with Pacific countries in development.
Mr McMullan also says Australia did not treat the islands as equal partners in the past.
Asked whether it's the increasing influence of China/Taiwan that sparked the aid increase, Mr McMullan said the two countries presence in the Pacific is not a threat.
