An 18 year-old man in Samoa has gone public with allegations of being forced into an unwanted sexual relationship with a senior police officer.

The man said the alleged offences happened several times during his 3 months at the Youth Rehabilitation centre at Olomanu two years ago.

He said he was 16 years old, but he decided to go public on the issue after the police ignored to investigate the senior officer.

But the assistant police commissioner, Papalii Li'o, says the professional standards unit have completed their investigation and the result of the inquiry is now before the police commissioner.

Meanwhile, a lawyer representing the senior officer at the centre of the allegations threatened the local media with legal action if they went ahead with the report.

But Samoa's only daily newspaper, the Samoa Observer, decided to publish the story.
