Noni fruit growers in Palau have donated a portion of their earnings to help improve local schools.

Since the Palauan Marketing Growers began selling noni juice four years ago it is now earning almost half a million dollars in annual sales.

The PMG's president Matsu Nishimura told the Marianas Variety newspaper sales jumped in their first year from US $300,000 in 2004 to almost a million in 2006.

The main market for the noni juice is Japan.

Matsu Nishimura says Japanese love it because it has over one thousand years of history in curing people making it trustworthy.

The association is now hoping to begin selling to Korea and China markets as well.

The association has donated US $20,000 to Ibobang High School and US$5,000 to the Law Enforcement Explorers Program as well as money to an elementary school and four other organizations.
