The New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) team has beaten the New Zealand Defence Force Academy side 74-3 in a rain soaked Pacific Nations Military rugby union tournament in Upper Hutt just north of Wellington.
Last week teams from Australia, combined French/New Caledonia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Tonga took part in the biennial tournament. In the Shield final (third and fourth place) Tonga beat Australia 10 to 5 and in the Plate final (fifth and sixth place) Papua New Guinea beat New Caledonia 27 to 25.
The inaugural tournament was held in Australia two years ago won by Fiji.
However Fiji were unable to attend this year because of the travel restrictions placed on it by the New Zealand government following the 2006 military coup
